What is clenbuterol?

Clenbuterol is a compound that belongs to the class of drugs called beta2-agonists. Initially developed to treat asthma in horses, it acts as a decongestant and bronchodilator. The drug thins the blood to reduce blood pressure and widens the vessels that carry oxygen, thereby increasing the volume of oxygen in the blood.

In addition to its use in treating asthma, clenbuterol has become popular among bodybuilders for its effect on muscle growth and fat reduction, where it is used in cutting cycles to cut body fat and as a weight loss pill. However, it’s worth noting that there is a lot of misinformation about clenbuterol, and it’s important to set the record straight.

What does clenbuterol do?

Clenbuterol stimulates both the heart and central nervous system and has a similar effect on the body as epinephrine and amphetamines. It is also a beta-2-agonist, which is the opposite of a beta-blocker. While a beta-blocker reduces the production of epinephrine and noradrenaline, clenbuterol increases it, leading to effects that include rapid fat burning, excitability, nervousness, increased energy, and greater determination.

Dosage and administration

Clenbuterol can be used as a weight-loss aid because it can increase a person’s metabolism, leading to reduced body fat and weight retention while allowing the user to maintain muscle mass and body strength. However, it’s important to note that when clenbuterol is taken to control asthma symptoms, the recommended dosage ranges from 0.02 to 0.03 milligrams per day, while for weight loss or performance enhancement, people typically use between 0.06 and 0.12 milligrams per day, which is higher than the recommended dosage for asthma treatment.

Side effects

Like all medicines, clenbuterol can cause side effects, including headaches, dizziness, shaking of the limbs, tension, insomnia, rapid heartbeat, heartache, increased blood pressure, skin rash, urinary disorders, and extremely rarely, paradoxical bronchospasm. It’s important to consult your doctor before taking clenbuterol, especially if you have other ailments such as prostate enlargement or diabetes.
